Scaling dependence on the fluid viscosity ratio in the selective withdrawal transition

چکیده

In the selective withdrawal experiment fluid is withdrawn through a tube with its tip suspended a distance S above a two-fluid interface. At sufficiently low withdrawal rates, Q, the interface forms a steady state hump and only the upper fluid is withdrawn. When Q is increased (or S decreased), the interface undergoes a transition so that the lower fluid is entrained with the upper one, forming a thin steady-state spout. Near this transition the hump curvature becomes very large and displays power-law scaling behavior. This scaling allows for steady-state hump profiles at different flow rates and tube heights to be scaled onto a single similarity profile. I show that the scaling behavior is independent of the viscosity

Scaling and transition structure dependence on the fluid viscosity ratio in the selective withdrawal transition.

In the selective withdrawal experiment, fluid is withdrawn through a tube with its tip suspended above a two-fluid interface. At sufficiently high flow rates, the interface undergoes a transition so that the lower fluid is entrained with the upper one, forming a spout. Previous experiments address the scalings and similarity profiles characterizing steady states of the system near the transitio...

Testing for scaling behavior dependence on geometrical and fluid parameters in the two fluid drop snap-off problem

We present experimental results on the snap-off dynamics of a drop with viscosity lh dripping through a fluid of viscosity h. This paper focuses on the Stokes regime where both the inner and outer fluid viscous stresses are balanced by the pressure gradients arising from the interfacial curvature. We track the time dependence of the drop profiles near snap-off and find that successive profiles ...

Study of leaky dielectric droplet behavior under an electric field: effect of viscosity and electric conductivity ratios

In this research, hydrodynamic behavior of a leaky dielectric droplet under an electric field is simulated. The level set method is used for interface tracking and the ghost fluid method is used for modeling discontinuous quantities at interface. Using Taylor’s leaky dielectric model, electric field and electric force at the interface is calculated. Simulation results show the droplet deformati...
